Marathon results
Despite coming in nearly five minutes slower than his third-place finish a year ago, Dickson Chumba (2:09:25) bested more than 46,000 runners to win the Chicago Marathon in Illinois’s capital city.
One of the largest marathons in the world, more than a million spectators lined the streets for the IAAF Gold Label race which began in 1977.
Sammy Kitwara (2:09:50) repeated in second with a time of 2:09:50.
He finished third in 2013.
Sammy Ndungu (2:10:06) beat Girmay Birhanu Gebru (2:10:07) by a second for third.
For the women, it was female half marathon record holder Florence Kiplagat (2:23:33) cutting almost two and a half minutes from her third place-finish a year ago to take the top spot.
Yebrgual Melese (2:23:43) earned runner-up honors with a time of 2:23:43.
Similar to the men’s race, third place was decided by a second with Birhane Dibaba (2:24:24) coming in just ahead of Kayoko Fukushi (2:24:25).
Dibaba finished fourth a year ago.
