The annual 5K A La Mud Obstacle Challenge and 1-Mile Down & Dirty Fun Challenge is held at the former Downeast Fairgrounds on U.S. Route 1 in Whitneyville, Maine. 5-mile course for ages 13 and up; 1-mile Fun Run for all ages!!
Healthy Acadia’s“A La Mud” helps to raise awareness and generate support for the Downeast Teen Leadership Camp, or DETLC, which focuses on the importance of youth education and peer support in preventing substance and tobacco use among youth. DETLC is a 5-day residential summer camp experience for teens held on the University of Maine at Machias campus. DELTC challenges and empowers teens by providing them with the skills necessary to positively impact their lives and those in their communities. Healthy Acadia staff and volunteer mentors, many of which are DETLC alumni, create a safe and fun environment for teens to be themselves while exploring ways they can serve as positive role models for their peers and siblings.
Entry fee is $25 for those entering the 5K event and $15 for the 1-mile walk/run. Students under age 18 pay just $10 for either event. Participants must be age 13 or older; those under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the event check-in.
