Johnston Health Care Champions 5K & 10K

Welcome to Johnston Health Foundation's CHAMPIONS 5K & 10K event, presented by HealthQuest Fitness and Wellness Center.  This year's event features our 8th CHAMPIONS 5K, 4th 5K Dog Run/Walk, and 3rd Annual CHAMPIONS 10K Run.  It is a timed run and fun walk event for all ages and fitness levels – definitely family, pet and stroller friendly.

Why join Champions 5K/10K?
1) We are using USATF Certified Courses.  See our 5K & 10K course maps below.
2) We will have Accurate Electronic Timing.
3) The registration fee includes the timer, a shirt, snacks, water, awards, and other sponsor goodies.
4) We are supporting 2 great causes!
Race proceeds will benefit two (2) charities programs under the Johnston Health Foundation (at each runner's request):

the HEART FUND  the HEALTHY KIDS FUND (to address childhood obesity issues in our community through health and fitness scholarships).

Friday, April 12, 2019: PACKET PICK UP DAY
7am-7pm | Team/participant packet pick up @ HealthQuest.
You don’t have to check-in on race day if you already picked up your packet on April 12. The packet will include your t-shirt, race bib with timer chip, pins, and event day reminders.  
7am-7pm | Pre-event offline registrations accepted @ HealthQuest.

Saturday, April 13, 2019, RACE DAY!
8:00-8:45am | Onsite Registration & Participant Check in.  Have selfie & team photos taken.  Visit sponsor tents & Kids zone.  Honor your loved ones by writing their names on our Tribute Wall.
8:40 am | Opening program
8:50 am | Pre-walk/Run Warmups
9:00 am | 10K Run & 5K Walk/Run Kicks Off, led by Chick-Fil-A pace car
(1st wave: Runners; 2nd Wave- Dogs Runners; 3rd wave: Walkers; 4th wave: Dog Walkers).
10:00 am | Returning participants to visit sponsor stations,  enjoy healthy snacks, an hour of line dancing, Latin dancing, and kick boxing. Kids games begin.11:00 am (or earlier) | Awards Ceremony         
11:40am | Event ends

INCENTIVES:
Awards will be given for the Most Creative Team Name, Most Creative Outfit, Cutest Dog, Largest Team, and the Champion Spirit Award will be given by a group of anonymous judges to an individual with high energy and enthusiasm. Teams with at least 50 registered participants will get a free hospitality tent on event day!

AWARDS:
Awards will be given to top three finishers of the 5K event in each age division. Male and Female categories: age 9 and under, age 10-12, age 13-14, age 15-18, age 19-29, age 30-39, age 40-49, age 50-59, age 60-69, age 70-79, age, and age 80 and older.
Trophies will be given to top 3 5K runners.
Trophies will be given to the top 3 10K runners, Male and Female Categories.
Awards will be given to the top 5K 3 registered dogs, Male and Female owner categories.

EVENT DAY INFORMATION:

Need information? You may approach anyone in bright green event shirts, visit our information tent or ask for event day info sheets from our greeters. First aid for humans is available at the registration tent; First aid for pets is available at the Pet Zone tent. Parking is free. Designated event parking will be the employee parking areas. Event day parking signs will be put out on May 6. This is a rain or shine fundraising event. Last minute changes based on weather will be posted on our Facebook Event Page. Dog owners – all dogs must sociable and friendly and be on a fixed / non-retractable leash, and owners are required to pick up after their dogs throughout the duration of the event. Poops bags and trash cans will be available at the Pet Zone.  Dog water stations will be available along the route, and dog snacks will be given after the event.

Start and finish strong! You will be rewarded with a Champions 5K & 10K event collectible item when you cross the finish line. 5K Dog Walk/Run sponsored by Willowrun Veterinary Hospital. Let your furry friends lead the way wearing their cool doggie bandanas.  They can win prizes too!  For safety at the event, they must be on a fixed leash at all times. Work Out Plaza sponsored by Super 8. For pre-race warm ups and stretches and post-race line dancing and kick boxing by our HealthQuest Fitness Instructor Gwen Collins. Tribute Wall sponsored by BB&T. Write the name or post a photo of the person you will be running/walking for on our tribute wall. Meet our survivors! If you are a cancer survivor, you may pick up stickers at the registration tent so we can celebrate your survivorship with you. Meet our Healthy Kids! Graduates of our Healthy Kids Program are in shape and are able to compete in the 5K race as a result of their fitness program scholarship. Selfie Station provided by HealthQuest Take those cool photos with our selfie frame and fun props. Post and share on social media using #WeAreChampions. Snack Station sponsored by Sheetz. Refresh yourself at the Sheetz tent with healthy snacks after the race and enjoy a fun activity! Kids Zone sponsored by University Orthopedics. Our friends at the Early Learning Center will offer tattoo, face painting, and coloring stations before the race.  Mascots from Chick-Fil-A and Sweet Frogs will be there to welcome your family.  Parents are requested to always accompany their kids since we are at an outdoor space.  The Kids Zone will close when the race starts, and will reopen when participants return. Pet Zone sponsored by Willowrun Veterinary Hospital. Stop by for a chance to win prizes. Your pets can play and cool off at dog bathing pools and meet 3 vets from Willowrun Veterinary Hospital.  Meet dogs available for adoption by Ruf Creek Ranch Animal Rescue. Hydration Stations sponsored by Interstate Outdoor, Inc. and Dr. & Mrs. Robert Lippitt available along the route

hanks to the support of the Town of Smithfield, Smithfield Police, Public Works & Parks & Recreation Departments, we are setup to provide you with a great experience. We will have a shuttle from the parking area to the event site.
