Guilford Fairgrounds

Lovers Lane - Guilford, CT

8:30 - Packet pickup & Race Registration

9:30 Kids Fun Run - age 4 & under

10:00 - Start 5K Race

This is an opportunity for people of all ages to join in an explosion of color with friends and family. The 5K course will be from the fairgrounds to Jacobs Beach and back. As you run or walk the course, you will be bombarded with color. This is not your grandma's traditional 5K, although she is certainly welcome to participate and we know several who are planning to do so. The course will be set up so anyone who wishes to bypass the color stations will be able to do so. There will be chip timing for serious runners who register by May 1, but we assume that many participants in the color run will not be interested in a chip. Of course there will be a timing clock so you can track your own time.

Lifelinx Corp. is a 501c(3) non-profit addictions recovery support service with offices at 2785 Boston Post Road in Guilford, CT. DAY is co-sponsoring the color run to help Lifelinx with its fundraising. By Participating in this event, you are helping people in recovery on their path to a good life.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

WHERE DO I PICK UP MY RACE PACKET? Race packets can be picked up at soundRUNNER, 1088 Main St. Branford, from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM on Friday May 13. The store is an extraordinary running store. On May 14, race day, race packets can be picked up at the Guilford Fairgrounds from 8:30 am - 9:30 am. The color run starts at 10:00 am.

WHAT IF i AM OUT OF SHAPE AND CAN'T RUN 5K?    No problem. We expect as many people will walk as will run. This is a color run, not the Olympics. The goal is to get some exercise and to have fun with friends. You'll be supporting Lifelinx and will be part of DAY Week. BE PURPLE! IT'S WORTH IT! SPEAK UP! HELP EACH OTHER!

WHAT IF I JUST WANT TO RUN, AND AVOID THE COLOR?  The course will be set up so people who wish to do so can bypass the color stations.

WILL THERE BE CHIP TIMING?  Since this is a color run, we assume that most participants will not be interested in chip timing. If you are a serious runner and wish to have chip timing, it will be necessary to register by May 1.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?  Show up wearing white, in clothes that won't end up white, and may never be white again. Or wear whatever you wish, but it will end up colored. Old white clothes would be a good idea. There will be a white tee shirt in the race packet for the first 500 participants.

WHAT IS THE COLOR MADE OF? CAN I EAT IT?  The color powder is a mixture of cornstarch and food dye that is safe and biodegradeable. If you want to eat it, it won't hurt you, but yuck! Color runs have been held throughout the US. They originated from ancient Hindu celebrations.

SHOULD I WEAR SUNGLASSES AND A DUST MASK?  The color stuff is dusty as all heck. Glasses or sunglasses will help keep the dust out of your eyes. A scarf will be in your race packet so you can cover your mouth and nose, but of course you can bring a dust mask if you wish.

SHOULD I COVER MY PHONE AND CAMERA?  If you plan selfies in the midst of the color bombardment, we recommend using a plastic baggie or plastic wrap to keep your phone or camera dust free.

How do I clean up after the race?  Dust off yourself and your buddies. This won't remove everything, so bring a towel or plastic bag to sit on before you climb into your car.

ARE PETS ALLOWED?  No pets. Not even cats.

WILL THE COLOR WASH OUT OF MY SHOES AND CLOTHES?  The color is made of cornstarch and food dye, so it usually washes out of shoes and clothing, but to be safe, wear old clothes that you don't mind staining, just in case.

WHAT ABOUT LIABILITY?  This is supposed to be fun. The color is made of cornstarch and food dye. It will be dusty as all heck. But if you try it and have a problem, we will not be liable. As with all road races, participants must sign a waiver of liability as part of the registration process.

WHAT ABOUT REFUNDS?  There will be no refunds. The color run will be held rain or shine. The proceeds benefit Lifelinx, a group dedicated to helping people in recovery. By participating in this event you are helping people in recovery on their path to a good life.
