Montezuma Festival of Races

MONTEZUMA FESTIVAL OF RACES 13.1, 15k, 10k & 5k

Nestled in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, the tiny town of Savannah — home to a population of just over 1,700 year-round residents — is set to play host to the Montezuma Festival of Races on Sunday June 30, 2019. A series of races that will take runners along country roads and the packed dirt trails into the Howland Island Unit of the Northern Montezuma Wildlife Management Area if you run either the Montezuma 15K or Half Marathon.

This race will benefit the important work and efforts of the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. The Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex support habitat restoration & public use at The Montezuma Wetlands Complex in upstate New York.

RACE WEATHER & CLIMATE

Located in western, Upstate New York, about 140 miles east of Buffalo and roughly an hours drive from Rochester, Savannah typically sees its warmest weather of the year in July, which has brought record temperatures here as low as 39ºF (in 1932) and as high as 100ºF (in 1936).

Post Race BBQ at the Savannah Fire Station (Rt 89) with music, food and farmers’ market vendors Starting at noon Free Parking   RACE EVENTS EVENT: HALF MARATHON, 15K & 10K    START TIME: 8:15 AM EST

The HALF MARATHON COURSE will be a combination of country roads (2/3) and nature trail (1/3) at Howland's Island. The newly added 15K will start on Howland's Island (entrance area) and follow the Half Marathon course from that point forward (9.3 miles). The newly added 10K will be entirely a road course.

EVENT: 5K   START TIME: 8:30 AM EST

The 5K COURSE will take place entirely on country roads in Savannah, NY. The new (2018) 5K road course will be a down and back with a turn around at where the American Bald Eagle stands (or sits depending on temp's for that day). RACE RECORDS (New Course in 2017): Hunter Brignall (M) 19:48 (2017), Caitlin Loehr (F) 23:39 (2017)

EVENT: 2 MILE TRAIL WALK/RUN (No Cost) - TRAIL COURSE WILL OPEN FROM 8:30 AM UNTIL 1:00 PM

The grass and wooded trails behind the Montezuma Audubon Center (MAC) - The 2 Mile Trail course will be open to the public.  Non-runners, spectators and family members are welcome to enjoy the trails and bird watching during the race event while runners can recover from a hard run with a gentle walk through the Marsh Lands that surround the MAC. No give-aways are associated with this.

RACE DAY PARKING

Montezuma Audobon Center (MAC), 2295 NY-89
Savannah Fire Co, 1770 NY-89 or Highway Dept.
Vehicles will be directed to the MAC first. After that parking lot fills, vehicles will be directed to the Savannah Fire Co. or Highway Dept. Buses will be available to shuttle runners from the Savannah FD to the MAC (race site) and also to shuttle 15K runners to the entrance of Howland's Island
