Let’s run trails at night!
Join us on January 16, 2020 for a little night trail magic. Whether you are a seasoned ultra runner, or just getting started on trails, this is a perfect way to experience the thrill of running through the woods at night. This year you will have a unique opportunity to run on beautiful trails near Morgan Canoe Riverside location. We are taking Covid precautions very seriously and will offer wave start (no more than 10 people per wave), socially distanced start and finish line, contactless aid stations, several packet pickup options. We are offering a full marathon, half marathon and 10K distances

There are two significant climb on every loop. One climb is technical. Marathoners will run four loops, half marathoners will do two loops, and 10K will run one.
Different start times for different distances to allow participants to spread out on the trail and to follow the state and CDC guidelines.
Small field (75 runners for 26,2, 75 runners for half, and 25 runners for 10K limit)
All participants must carry mandatory gear:
- mylar blanket
- hat and gloves
- headlamp and/or waist light with extra batteries
- fully charged cell phone
Finishers will receive cool medals. All registered runners will receive high quality winter swag.
We will have awards for top finishers in both genders.

Empower Ultras was founded by two Middle-Aged, Midpack, Midwest Moms, Aneta (Nettie) Zeppettella and Jennifer Russo, who met through ultrarunning and over years gained a ton of experience finishing some of the hardest ultras on East Coast and beyond. Nettie has directed ultrarunning events as volunteer RD, and Jennifer has extensive marketing experience. We both want to empower you to try to push your limits and create your new adventures. Please join us. We will cheer for you with our whole hearts!
Cutoffs are for safety of our runners and volunteers and will be strictly enforced.
Full Marathon cutoffs:
- Runners will have 8 hours to complete the race. The cutoff for starting final loop is 10:30 pm
Half Marathon cutoff:
Runners must start the second loop by 10:30 pm
Runners must complete the race by 12:30 am
There will be no refunds. If we need to postpone the race, we will roll over all registrations to new date or offer participants an opportunity to run future Night Owl event
Trail and ultrarunning wouldn’t exists without the help of incredible volunteers. Please help us make this event successful. Volunteers can earn credit towards future Empower Ultras races and will receive cool swag and Starbucks gift cards. We promise we will do everything we can to keep you warm :) .
