Run for Randy 5k

Net Proceeds will assist with medical bills for the family! Randy is a 55 year old male, who contracted the Coxsackie virus. This is a common illness of infants and children and called Hand, Foot, and Mouth. He could have simply touched a door knob that a sick child touch and caught this virus. It affected Randy’s heart and decreased his heart function to only 10%, so his heart was removed from his chest and a mechanical heart was put in its place. Then he developed cardiac tamponade (where clots form around the heart and decreases cardiac output), and he had to go to surgery again. He has been on a ventilator with multiple medications to keep him asleep and alive. He has had many x rays, CT scans, and many procedures, and hospital bills are mounting. Randy is presently waiting on a donor heart. Last week Randy suffered a stroke thankfully with no residual effects. He is progressing slowly and when he is well enough he will go to Rehab to get stronger with his mechanical heart until a donor heart is available. Randy is married and has 3 children. One child is in High School and one is in college. His wife Cheryl Gray is a nurse with Catawba County Home Health and her patient care area was Maiden, but sadly Catawba County Home Health has been sold. If she goes with the agency that bought Catawba County Home Health she has no Family Medical Leave, as she has no time with the new agency as of yet, and with Randy’s heart transplant in the future and his home care with dressing changes she will have her hands full.
