Running of the Elk

Event Update: June 1st:

Dear Running of the Elk Loyalists!

As you know, we are in the midst of an unprecedented time. We already had to move our race date one time, but it has now become apparent that we will not be allowed to gather together in large groups for the foreseeable future. Therefore, the Board of Directors of the Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation has made the very difficult decision to convert the 2020 Kaiser Permanente Running of the Elk to a Virtual Run.

This is not a decision we made lightly, but we felt we had no other choice. Many of Elk Grove families have been impacted by COVID-19 and the services of the Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation will be needed more than ever – if kids are going to be able to afford to play youth sports as our fields open back up. The Running of the Elk is 100% volunteer driven and all proceeds go to the Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation – providing scholarship for kids to play recreational youth sports. Unfortunately, most of the expenses incurred for our run are prepaid. We already have the shirts, awards, and medals!

Here's how it works:

1.       Sign up online (if already signed up, you are all set)

2.       Run or walk your Half Marathon (13.1 miles), 5K (3.1 miles), 10K (6.2 miles) , or Kids Fun Run (1 Mile) on or before July 31, 2020.  You can run anytime and anywhere you choose.

On August 8th from 11 am. To 3 p.m., you can come by Fleet Feet Elk Grove for our Post Run Celebration to pick up the following:

·         Running of the Elk Micro-Fiber Tech Shirt (Kids Fun Run gets a cotton shirt)

·         Really Awesome Finisher's Medal (Half, 10K, and 5K)

Running of the Elk Date Change – June 21 Greetings all you wonderful runners and great people! I hope your training is going well in this beautiful Spring weather. As you know, the COVID-19 virus continues to spread and California’s Governor has requested that large groups of people not come together in order to mitigate the impact. Therefore, we will be changing the date of the 9th Annual Kaiser Permanente Running of the Elk to Sunday, June 21st. All other details should remain the same. As you know, the Running of the Elk is 100% volunteer driven run and all proceeds go to the Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation – providing scholarship for kids to play recreational youth sports. Unfortunately, most of the expenses incurred for our run are prepaid. Therefore, our strong preference is NOT to cancel the run and, instead, reschedule it. This gives you more time to train and us more time to make the run even more special! Please mark your calendar for Sunday, June 21st. Same time. Same place. Thank you for being flexible!

The Running of the Elk is a Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and Kids Run that takes place in Elk Grove, CA. The event exists to encourage fitness and a healthy lifestyle while at the same time raising money for the Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation youth sports scholarship fund.

Start/Finish location and start times are pending final approval and subject to change.
