EVENTS

Friday evening, September 22- Obstacle Competition

$20 cash entry
Winner takes all unless 8 or more entries, then it will be split 60/40.

*RULES*

Fastest time to complete all obstacles. Halter and lead rope only. No chains or whips allowed.

September 23- 3, 6, & 10 Mile Burro Races

Entry fee includes camping and dinner Friday evening.  The first 45 entries receive a shirt. Sizes are men's and are limited so enter early.

ALL BURROS MUST BE CHECKED IN BY 8AM.  NO EXCEPTIONS!  The first part of the run heads up our road, so all rigs need to be on the ranch by 7:30. If you are running late, you will be stopped on the forest road for safety reasons.

Saturday morning, the burro teams are off and running!  3, 6, and 10 mile loops for all levels of experience and speed.  All three distances will start together. The loops consist of a combination of forest road, forest two track, General Crook Trail, Black Canyon Trail, sand wash, and following ribbons thru the brush.  Please be prepared to carry your phone and plenty of water. Cell service is spotty, but texts go thru.  Text Carolyn Lee at (928) 925-5085 if you are lost or need help. Trail will be marked at turns and with ribbons when going cross country. If you download the Gaia navigation app, I can share the track with you and it will let you navigate on the fly and track your route. If you haven’t used it before, download the app and call me. I’ll talk you thru. It works off GPS and works when your phone is on airplane mode. We can also do a little tutorial Friday evening, but we have no cell service at the ranch, so download app at home.

*RULES*

3 and 6 mile run- Pack saddles are optional.

10 mile run- Pack saddle, pick, pan, and shovel are required to be worn from start to finish to win awards.

In order to be eligible for awards, if you become separated from your burro, you must return to the place you became separated and start again.
Youth of all ages are encouraged to participate. First time youth and adults that need family assistance can only enter the 3 mile fun run and are asked to start at the back of the start pack and will not be eligible for awards. (You can’t win a prize if you have a helper pushing your burro.)

Jack chains are allowed, but misuse is not.

DIRECTIONS

Google Maps “Sandam Ranch” gets you here. Our address sometimes sends you to Timbuktu.
Hwy 169, halfway between mile marker 8 & 9 are two black mailboxes and a brown dumpster on the south side of the road. This is Forest Road 9604K and it dead ends into our property.  Turn south down Forest Road 9604K. I will try to have it marked Friday afternoon. Go slow and take corners wide as it gets narrow, but we get huge rigs in and out all the time. Our security gate will be open all weekend.

CAMPING

Camping is included in entry fee.  Everyone is welcome to come camp with your burro Friday, September 22 to Sunday, September 24.  There is a huge open field to set camps up in. Follow signs and flags to camp area. We have a few group pens, but you should make arrangements to contain your own burro(s) in camp. There are trees to highline to, but please don’t tie burros to trees. The start/finish will go thru the middle of camp. Unless local restrictions forbid it, Sandam Burro Jam Camp is planning on having a fire on Friday and Saturday evening.  We will be serving beef stew in bread bowls made special by Alison McKee to all campers for dinner Friday evening. Breakfast burritos will be available for purchase from the food truck Saturday morning and we will make a pizza run after the costume contest Saturday afternoon.
