About the event

St. Mary's Health Systems proudly invites you to participate in the Fourth Annual St. Mary's Commit to get Fit Challenge walk/run on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Marguerite d'Youville Fund for the Needy, which assists people in financial crisis, as well as elder care services, and the Nutrition Center community outreach. It is a visible way to continue the mission of St. Marguerite d'Youville and the Sisters of Charity of Saint-Hyacinthe, Canada.

St. Mary's is proud to care for the people of Central Maine. The support of our local communities helps us to provide the high quality of care that is essential to our mission of compassionate healing. The health and well-being of our community is at the core of our mission. Fitness is an integral part of building a healthy community, so we will be hosting a 3K walk, 5K, 10K, and 15K runs (along with great activities for the kids!) at our Medical Building in Auburn. The first 100 to register will get a Tee shirt. The journey to a healthy life is built on hard work, commitment, and determination let St. Mary's be part of your journey! Join us on May 5, 2018!

*In celebration of St. Marguerite d'Youville and as a visible sign of her compassionate love and concern for the poor, the Marguerite d'Youville Fund for the Needy was founded in 1994 by St. Mary's staff as an on-going source of funds to help those in need with basic necessities such as food, medications, and transportation. In 1737, Marie-Marguerite d'Youville and her son converted their home into a dwelling for the poor and elderly. Soon, other like-minded women joined them and in 1755, these women were formally recognized as the "Soeur Grises" (Grey Nuns), the Sisters of Charity of Montreal, Canada. In 1878, the sisters were asked to come to Lewiston, Maine to begin a French-speaking school, and eventually a hospital too. In1889, the Sisters of Charity founded the first Catholic hospital in Maine (eventually known as St. Mary's General Hospital).
