About the event
The City of Detroit Parks & Recreation Department (DPRD) STAY (Seniors, Teens, Adults, and Youth) Fit for Health initiative encourages citizens to become stewards of their community parks by walking their community, meeting new friends and starting new habits that may benefit their quality of life. As proprietor of 308 parks, in addition DPRD offers programs and activities at 10 recreation, the Historic Fort Wayne and at its only outdoor swimming pool.
Our programs and activities are divers from your traditional programs of arts & crafts, ceramics, archery, skills & drills, flag football, ballroom dancing, boxing, aqua aerobics to non-traditional of dodge ball, Zumba, yoga, aqua Zumba, scuba diving, kayak, soccer, as well as healthy nutrition, health screening and mental health awareness seminars.
Our citizens are informed of the many opportunities available through DPRD however we recognize that there are areas beyond our scope that require collaboration and welcome agencies in the areas of health, wellness and prevention, nutrition, finance, housing and other services to advertise and become a sponsor/partner of our STAY Fit for Health initiative.
Our 5K/3K/Fun Run encourages Seniors, Teens, Adults and Youth to live healthy and active life by using the parks. STAY Fit for Health 5K/3K/Fun Run is about awareness of park(s) within the community and having fun just steps away your home. This event is for everyone including leashed pets*! Support National Park Month and come dress in theme attire**!
Detroit Parks & Recreation Department STAY Fit for Health Walk/Run event is a 3K Walk, timed 5K Walk/Run and Fun Run for ages under 13.
Kids fun zone will be available for participants under 12 before, during and half hour after the 3K Events.

Rules & Regulations
® On-site registration Available July 22 at 7 am;
® Packet Pick-up July 18-20 | 10 am – 3 pm | Northwest Activities Center; July 21 | 3 pm – 8 pm | Rouge Park ~ Brennan Pool;
® Registration after May 31 are not guarantee a T-shirt; Participants under 18 years old must have their entry form signed by a parent/ guardian;
® Packets not picked up will not be mailed out;
® All protest related to results must be submitted within 30 minutes after the official announcement of winners;
® Race bib numbers and electronic timing chips must be worn at all times during the race. Bib numbers must be pinned on front-of your running shirt;
® If registered for walk event participant are not allowed to run during the race otherwise subject to disqualification if in medal contention.
® All registered participants will receive a Participation Medal.
® Awards will be given to 1st Place Overall and Age categories in timed events.
® In the event of heavy rain, lightening or other inclement weather the event will be delay. The event will not be postponed until another day. Should the inclement weather persist for more than an hour the event will be canceled. If the rain occurs after the start of the race, you are advised to seek shelter. If you wish to continue with the race you do so at your own risk. NO refund will be issued if event is cancelled for act(s) of nature.
All net proceeds will support the programs offered by the Detroit Parks & Recreation Department in the area of STAYing Fit for Health.
Age categories: under 9, 9-12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+
Distance: Fun Run = 1/2 Mile, 3K - 1.86 Miles, 5K = 3.1 Miles

Waiver & Liability ~ Race Agreement
I know that my participation in the Detroit Parks & Recreation Department’s STAY Fit for Health event is potentially a hazardous activity, which could cause injury or death. I will not enter and participate unless I am medically able and properly trained. My signature certify that I am properly trained, medically able and in good health to participate in this event. I agree to abide by any decision of a race official relative to any aspect of my participation in this event, including the right of any official to deny or suspend my participation for any reason whatsoever. I attest that I have read the rules of the race and agree to abide by them. I assume all risks associated with my participation in this event, including but not limited to: falls, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather, including high heat and/or humidity, traffic and the conditions of the road, all such risks being known and appreciated by me. I understand that bicycles, skateboards, roller skates or roller blades and unleashed animals are not allowed in the race and I will abide by all race rules. Having read this waiver and knowing these facts and inconsideration of your accepting my entry, I, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive and release the Detroit Parks & Recreation Department, STAY Fit for Health event, RunSignUp, the City of Detroit, all event sponsors, their representatives and successors from all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participation in this event. I grant permission to all of the foregoing to use my photographs, motion pictures, recordings or any other record of this event for any legitimate purpose.

The STAY Fit for Health Run is a dog friendly event but all dogs MUST be leashed.
