About the event

The Cheyenne Mountain Run on October 12, 2019 will feature two trail races, a 25K for the more advanced trail runner and a 3 mile trail run for all to enjoy.

In the Fall of 2018, the Dixon Trail was opened at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in Colorado Springs CO and it provides access to points near the top of Cheyenne Mountain. The race will start at 9:00 at the Limekiln Trailhead at an elevation of 6,000 feet and follows the Talon and North Talon Trails to the start of the Dixon Trail. Runners will follow the Dixon Tail to the top meadow and will briefly turn onto Mountain Loop Trail and starting a counterclockwise loop the includes an uphill section on a rocky jeep trail to the top and end point of the Dixon Trail. At the top of the Dixon Trail at an elevation of 9,200 feet runners will turn left and downhill for the entire 4.5 miles of the Dixon trail and return to the Limekiln Trailhead finish line on North Talon and Talon Trails. Total elevation gain and loss will be about 3,200 over the 25K distance.

The loop on the top has been added to the course used last year to reduce congestion on the upper steeper single track sections of the Dixon Trail and to provide several exception view points.

Our top of the mountain split time will be recorded at the top of the Dixon Trail and we will have an aid station there also.

Due to the safety of both runners and volunteers we will have a CUT OFF TIME of 10:45am at the Dixon saddle. This is at the 2.5 mile mark on the Dixon Trail and about 5.8 mile miles from the start. This point is where the trail increases in steepness and elevation gain. Because this is mostly an out and back course, hiking poles are not allowed. The finish line timing station will close at 2:30pm,

In addition to the water stop at the top of the Dixon Trail there will be water stops at the Talon/Sundance and Talon/North Talon junctures and one just up the lower section of the Dixon Trail. From the lower Dixon Trail water stop to the top of the Dixon Trail aid station runners will need to carry their own hydration and be prepared for weather changes. We will have course marshals, communication methods and a great aid station on the top, but there won’t be a way off the top other than coming back down the race course to the Limekiln parking lot.

The 3 Mile race will start at 9:30 am and will follow the Talon Trail to the Sundance Trail juncture at about 1.5 miles. The race turns right onto the Sundance Trail and returns to the finish line at the Limekiln Trailhead. This is a loop course with one water stop at the Talon/Sundance junction.
