Fit & Able is proud to announce a new race this year to help benefit Dorcas Ministries, one of our favorite local charities! With two new 3 Mile and 6 Mile race courses at Bond Park we hope you will join us to support Dorcas and the incredible work they do to help many in our community.
Their Story: In June of 1968 Margaret Keller brought together a small group to address a common concern: how to best serve our neighbors in need. From different races and denominations, they agreed to work together to help meet some of the needs of the Cary and Morrisville community. With backing from local churches, Dorcas Ministries was formed as “Christian Community in Action”. Dorcas Ministries has always, and continues to, strive to find solutions to the increasing and different needs of the community, hoping to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.
In 2008, they purchased Dorcas Plaza off of High House Road, with a goal of creating a non-profit center in Cary to serve the needs of western Wake County (now 78% of our space is leased to non-profits). With this move, Dorcas expanded their Thrift Shop and is now offering programs that include financial and food assistance, emergency housing, career advancement programs, continued childcare scholarships, Jobs for Life and other training programs.
Since 2015, Dorcas Ministries has been named the “Best Charity” of Western Wake County by the readers of Cary Magazine.
In 2018, Dorcas Ministries was blessed with over 600 volunteers and had served an estimated 24,000 clients. We were thrilled to celebrate 50 years of serving our local community. As we approach the next 50 years, we are guided by the experience and wisdom of the last 50 years. Over the past decade, we have added tools and resources to help our clients become self-reliant while addressing immediate crises. We found that looking beyond the symptoms to root causes is a far more effective method than the band aid approach.
We hope you’ll join us and please invite your friends and family to walk or run with you!

Fit & Able Productions is a nonprofit organization that has been supporting community and family fitness in Cary since 1997 through organizing creative events and training programs. We also support many programs, such as swim safety lessons for at-risk children and adults, youth fitness programs, and health education run by our community partners including the Cary Family YMCA, Triangle Aquatic Center, and Town of Cary. Proceeds from our events that aren’t designated to support other organizations go to support the event and other Fit & Able nonprofit activities.
