About the event

Over 40 million people are living with substance use disorders in the United States. Overdose deaths have risen dramatically in our state during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are fighting a complex public health crisis, and yet we know that when we give people a meaningful chance - they can and do recover.

We are the proof.

The end of addiction is not jails, institutions, or death — the end of addiction is recovery. On Oct 21, 2023, we are launching the first annual Washington Recovery Alliance Hearts & Minds 5K Run/Walk to spread the message of hope and recovery. Join us as we show that recovery is possible.

This event will include a 5K run, walk, food, entertainment, and more.

Our organization changes hearts and minds by sharing our community’s lived experience. This event will support our efforts to center the voices of people in recovery, and harness the power of story to drive high-level change across Washington state.

Learn more about our programs and upcoming projects at www.washingtonrecoveryalliance.org.

Important: Signing up as an individual or team does not automatically register you for the event — if you plan to attend in person, please also register for the run, walk, or gather.

Please note: This event is meant to celebrate the recovery community – participation in the 5K run or walk is completely optional. We will be hosting a fun community event directly following the race with entertainment, food, community-building, and more!

Green Lake Park has minimal elevation change. This event is wheelchair-friendly and accessible to people with all abilities. If you require any additional accommodations or assistance, please contact Program and Events Manager, Tristan, at [email protected]

Well-behaved, leashed pets are welcome.

About the WRA

The Washington Recovery Alliance, is a 501(c)(3) statewide organization comprised of individuals in recovery from substance use and mental health conditions, families, and providers. We drive change in public policy and public understanding.

The WRA works proactively to eradicate societal prejudice associated with mental health conditions and substance use disorders and transform the dominant narrative about behavioral health from one of jails, institutions and death to one of hope and recovery. We change hearts and minds by sharing our community’s lived experience through events, media, and public education.

Our regional coalitions do work in their local communities to educate, fight stigma, and turn people into advocates for recovery. We work together to create a statewide community of recovery led by people with first-hand experience. We deliver our mission through innovation, community partnerships, and citizen activism.
