Nearly 13,000 Registered Runners Converge In The Crescent City For The 2019 Humana Rock 'N' Roll New Orleans Marathon & 1/2 Marathon

NEW ORLEANS, La. (Feb. 10, 2019) – Nearly 13,000 registered runners from age 12 to 86 took to the streets of New Orleans this weekend to participate in the 10th edition of the Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans Marathon & 1/2 Marathon. With a focus on the core pillars of bringing Fun to the RunTM with great music in a community environment, runners of all athletic levels enjoyed the sights and sounds of New Orleans. The best-in-class running event kicked off on Saturday with the 5K presented by Brooks that took participants on a tour of the French Quarter, giving runners the opportunity to run the streets of some of New Orleans’ most historic districts and vibrant scenery. Representing all 50 states and 35 countries it was the marathon and half marathoners turn on Sunday seeing runners take off from Lafayette Square to St. Charles and through the French Quarter before finishing in City Park. In the marathon, Ryan Hendricks (McKinney, Texas) won the race with his first-place effort clocking a time of 2:33:10. Tyler Cannon (New Orleans, La.) was second with a time of 2:37:23. Samuel Clarot (New Orleans, La.) followed in third place finishing in 2:47:38. Kayla Campasino (Bel Air, Md.) was the women’s champion with a final time of 2:55:06 with Violetta Yazlovskaya (Titusville, Fla.) next behind her at 2:58:07. Laura Child (Vicksburg, Miss.) rounded out the podium in 2:59:16.

In the half marathon, Dathan Ritzenhein (Belmont, Mich.) won the race with his first-place effort clocking a time of 1:01:24. Emmanuel Bett (Kenya) was second with a time of 1:01:30. Tyler McCandless (Boulder, Colo.) followed in third place finishing in 1:03:47. Berhane Dibaba (Ethiopia) was the women’s champion with a final time of 1:11:31 with Jane Kibii (Kenya) next behind her at 1:11:32. Vivian Kiplagat (Kenya) rounded out the podium in 1:11:34. Elite runners and fast times aside, Sunday’s races were all about the party atmosphere. Several local bands, including the Red Hot Brass Band, Kinfolk Brass Band, Cameron Dupuy & The Cajun Troubadours, Acadien Cajun Band, Rock N Soul, Doombalaya, The Dirty Rain Revelers, the Marina Orchestra plus many others performed live on band stages along the route interspersed with cheerleaders and themed water stations. Participants moved along to more music on course while taking in the unique New Orleans scenery and city streets packed with spectator support. The musically themed road race celebrated the day’s accomplishments with the iconic jazz of local favorite Preservation Hall Jazz Band, who headlined the Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series at the finish line festival held at City Park.
