Marathon results
Top 10 perennial Christoforos Merousis (2:21:22) bested closer to 11,900 runners to win the 33rd annual Athens Classic Marathon in Greece.
He cut close to four minutes from his tenth-place finish a year ago.
Starting in Marathon the course works west after looping around the Marathon Tomb and ends at Panathinaikon Stadium in Athens.
In a tight race for runner-up, Dimitrios Theodorakakos (2:27:03) managed to hold off Dimosthenis Evangelidis (2:27:28).

For the women, it was Minori Hatakari (2:52:06) cutting four minutes from her ninth-place finish a year ago to take the top spot.
Ourania Rempouli secured second with a time of 2:54:32.
She finished eighth in 2014.
Magdalini Gazea (2:55:35) rounded out the top three.
She finished seventh last year.
Third in 2013.
