A New Year requires fresh goals and running destinations! The rapidly growing RunCzech Running League introduces the 1st Karlovy Vary Half Marathon, to be held on the 25 May 2013. The race makes a nice addition to the other 3 regional events and continues the Czech running tour further to Bohemia and the most beautiful spa town in the heart of Europe – Karlovy Vary.
Offering an exquisite race course throughout the city centre the organizers expect a successful race debut and believe that Karlovy Vary Half Marathon will become one of the most appealing events also for international runners, who tend to combine sports with tourism and recreation.
Situated two hours away from Prague, Karlovy Vary already in the 19th century has become a popular tourist destination not only for its charming hilly scenery and SPA tradition but also for its rich history, recaptured in the breath-taking Baroque and Art Nouveau architecture, which has been a background for many Hollywood movie scenes such as the famous Casino Royale. The city is also known for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, the popular Czech liqueur Karlovarská Becherovka, glass manufacturer Moser Glass.
The 1st edition of the Karlovy Vary Half Marathon is expected to attract around 2400 runners from Czech Republic and abroad. The race will start at a popular evening time slot of 6 pm in the central square of T.G. Masaryka. Apart from the full half marathon distance (21.0975 km) runners will be able to divide the course among 4 team members at a Relay Race or take it easy at a non- competitive Family Run (3 km) with their beloved ones. Being held on Saturday the race is a perfect opportunity to prolong active or a rewardingly passive weekend… From walking tours, bicycling and horse riding to various SPA treatments and thermal baths – Karlovy Vary is your getaway.
