Interview: Golden Ring Ultra Trail 100
04 Oct, 2015 (Sun)

Hello, on July 24th 2016, you’ll be organizing the Golden Ring Ultra Trail 100. Can you tell us where it is located?
Hello Guys, our trail event will be organized in Suzdal city, one of the oldest city in Russia, just 220 km from Moscow, where a lot of beautiful landmarks are located. There are over 300 Chapels, Churches and other monuments in the city. This is a Real Heart of Russia and Russian History!
On July 23rd there will be an Expo and runners will be able to pick their bibs. The races will start on the 24th.
To get to Suzdal city, you can use the transfer from Moscow we have organized or write to us to order a private transfer. We are ready to help you with any questions!

How old is the race and why was it created in the first place?
In 2016, this will be the second race. The inaugural event was run in 2015. My idea was to show everyone in the world what beautiful place Suzdal is. A place where you can run, you can enjoy your vacation, the food and traditional Russian hospitality.
The main idea was to create something great in Suzdal, something that had never happened before in Russia. I wanted to create an event that would support the trail running community of Russia and to invite runners from overseas and show them the beauty of Russia.
There are a lot of different Hotels and Hostels in the city on various budgets, and different restaurants and cafes where you can try delicious Russian food.
What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?
We have set 4 different distances. There is a 10km city run. The race is easy and visits the landmarks of the city. The T30-T50 and T100 are for real trail running lovers.
All trail distances are quite difficult. You’ll need to run across city, in nature, follow a beautiful river. Some sections will lead you through the forest and wild fields. You’ll need to have strong legs to run through a little bit of Nettle Bushes, tall grasses, a few of swamps. The overall scenery is a classical Russian summer landscape with smelly flowers and great views.

How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract?
Last year we closed our registration earlier because we had an outstanding interest. As we are afraid to welcome more runners, for 2016 we have established caps.
10km – 1500 limit
T30 – 1000 limit
T50- 500 limit
T100 – 250 limit
At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?
Summertime is the most charming and beautiful time to spend some time in the Russian countryside. The temperatures in the morning are cool and nice. It gradually gets warmer during the day and can be a little bit hot, which will make a race little bit harder, but this is a trail race, it must be hard!
Have you planned festivities around the event?
Yes, we have organized an Expo on the 23rd where the runners will collect their bibs, a pasta party, a runners’ briefing and meeting and some nice booths from our partners where you’ll be able to buy some equipment.
The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Suzdal before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?
Oh, The Suzdal city is a great destination for a vacation, to walk around, visit historical monuments, do some shopping, by a few souvenirs, enjoy traditional Russian restaurants (dumplings, pancakes, medovuha and etc.!!!) and to see how people live. It is an extremely nice city to visit!
And combined with the race, this will give an amazing experience.
In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Golden Ring Ultra Trail 100?
Hmm, let me think, so if you are real adventurer and traveler and you love trail running, you need to come and enjoy an unforgettable race and stay in Suzdal, because it is worth it! As a runner myself, I love trail running. It is a way of life and makes it shine with different colors! This run will stay in your memories for a very long time!
The T100 runners who cross the finish line in less than 12 hours will get a special buckle. And thanks to our partners, we have a lot of presents for each runner, not only medals! So Join us and do it Ultra!
Interview with Michael Dolgy, Race Director. Michael is an adventurer, traveler and a trail runner. He loves to travel with his family to experience new adventures and discover new sites. He wants to promote trail running not only as a sport but also as a way of Life. For him it is more a philosophy than just a sport.
