About the event

Join us for our FREE, fourth annual marathon around the neighborhoods of Seattle. Run solo or split the full distance however you like with a relay team.

The route has plenty of awesome places along the way: Green Lake, Golden Gardens beach, Ballard Locks, Magnolia bluff, Elliot Bay trail, Olympic Sculpture Park, Pike Place and downtown Seattle, Broadway on Capitol Hill, a stroll through Interlaken Park, Montlake, and Husky Stadium (Light Rail station), the Burke Gilman trail with views of South Lake Union, and the Fremont Troll (1 block off route). There are a couple notable climbs, so make sure you train on some hills to avoid the notorious "wall" on the final stretch.

Race Parking and Start/Finish is located at the Green Lake north parking lot, at 7300 West Green Lake Dr N, Seattle WA

— PARKING —

The start area is inside the parking lot. The lot may fill up due to the number of participants we have this year, but you should be able to find street parking nearby. Please allow a few additional minutes to find parking.

— WHAT TO BRING / WEATHER —

It's usually cold with light rain, and temperatures near 40°F. Remember to bring a warm layer just in case.

— AID STATIONS —

We'll provide water and Tailwind all-in-one race nutrition, at three aid stations and the finish area. Some light snacks should also be available (like bananas, pretzels, or chips).
Orca Running is providing an aid station at mile 13, on the Elliot Bay Trail near the waterfront. Two volunteer aid stations will also be available: mile 6 at Ballard Locks entrance, and mile 20 near Husky Stadium after Montlake Bridge.

— RELAY TEAMS —

Teams are allowed to split the course in any way they like. Feel free to park along the course, cheer on your runners, and exchange your runners along the route. The last runner on your team needs to wear the bib across the finish line. A minimum of one team member, such as the captain or first runner, can pick up the team bib at the starting line. You can either wear the bib through the entire course or just hand the bib to the last runner before they start running. The suggested exchanges are: Mile 6 at the Ballard Locks entrance — NW 54th St & 32nd Ave NW Mile 13 on the Elliot Bay Trail — adjacent to the large industrial Louis Dreyfus Corporation Mile 20 at the UW Light Rail station — at the bottom of the large ramp to UW campus, Montlake Blvd NE & Walla Walla Rd NE

— CHIP TIMING —

Rivalry Events is generously offering to chip time this race again! When you pick up your bib on race morning, please make sure you wear the bib pinned to the outermost, front-facing layer so we can easily identify you on the course and at the finish. Bibs will have timing chips so please try not to crumple them.

— NAVIGATING THE COURSE —

We are providing a downloadable course map which we suggest loading onto your phone or GPS watch to avoid getting lost. We'll also paper copies of a map and instruction sheets.

MAP: https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/fullscreen/2694930442/

We'll mark turns turns on the sidewalk/pavement with purple arrows for 2019, but you will be expected to have some basic navigational skills to successfully complete this route. Roads will remain open as usual, since this is a free event, so please be safe out there and watch out for cars, cyclists, walkers, and runners.

— RACE MEDALS —

Similar to previous years, we will have custom wood etched "medals" available at the finish area.

See you on Saturday morning!
