A well organised race with the most stunning scenery. I almost forgot that I was running a marathon! Loved my race pack (received a cap and a T-Shirt), and also received food afterwards. The water tables were well stocked (although only every 5kms along the route and not every 3km as I am accustomed to). There is not a lot of crowd support, but those that were along the route were very encouraging, friendly and cheerful.

The route is stunning, very well marked, with distance markers at every km. It was a privilege to run a marathon in such a beautiful environment.

A well organised out and back marathon. Relatively flat, all long the costal roads. Finish is on the beach, where you get given a full on meal! It has a small field, but has a very friendly vibe and definitely one to put on a bucket list!

Too beautiful not to run the full marathon!

Sun, Beach, and Run at the Mauritius marathon

18 Mar, 2013 (Mon)

§staticmap(12674,3,450,250) Hello, on July 14th 2013, you’ll be organizing the Mauritius Marathon. Can you tell us where it is located? Mauritius Island is a small Island situated about 2000 km from the South East of the African Continent in the Indian Ocean. The Mauritius Marathon’s route follows the most beautiful coastal road in the South West of the Island. The Start is at the bottom of the famous Mountain “Le Morne”, which has been classified as a World Heritage by UNESCO, then the track goes up to Case Noyale, in the driest area of Mauritius, and after a U-Turn runners will run right close to La Prairie Beach, across the Coconut road of Bel Ombre, and the finish is on the beautiful Saint Felix Public Beach! Just a jump and you can refresh yourself in the Indian Ocean! How old is the race and why was it created in the first place? It will be the 4th Mauritius Marathon, we decided to put Mauritius in the international calendar of race, our route is beautiful and we want runners to discover Mauritius as it can be: a super running destination where at the end you can dance and swim! What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it? The route follows the coast, you can discover a wild and blue coastal road, and the coconuts in Bel Ombre are so numerous that it makes it very original. Mauritius has a beautiful lagoon, and the South West coast is a discovery. Credit : N. Goupille How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract? We hope to receive many runners from all over the world, we invite all type of runners to join our event, last year Mr. Fauja Singh was with us, this year we hope to receive another famous runner Patrick Makau (World record Holder). Do you organize other races during the Week-End? If so, on what distances? In Mauritius we have an organization called Rando Trail Runners and they organize a lot of training events, but most of them are off road races. At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect? July is one of the coolest months, it is not too hot – very comfortable for runners as it is a shinny month. The temperature varies between 17 C to 25 C early in the morning till midday. Credit : N. Goupille Have you planned festivities around the marathon? Every year we invite an Orchestra to play music at the finish, and after running you can swim in the lagoon, and then you can dance! With our Hotel Sponsor TAMASSA produced by LUX we have a cocktail party on Sunday night. The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Mauritius before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing? I would definitively advise people to visit CHAZAL a wonderful ecotourism site with zip-lining and a delicious table for a real Mauritian menu, and people must imagine that Mauritius is a very interesting Island with many things to visit, many sport to discover and practice, many recipes to taste… In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of Ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Mauritius Marathon? I would tell them – Join our Mauritius Marathon and enjoy a real Tropical Island experience with a super scenic road, an organization team always smiling, a family event and a finish line in music. To finish, I would say: Sun, Beach, and Run that’s what Mauritius Marathon is about. Interview with Frederic & Cecilia. They both enjoy water sports and good food but most of all love meeting people from different horizons and cultures. Through sports events they have the chance to experience that and make friends with people from around the world.
